Stitt Sends Swift Water Rescue Teams to Texas Flood Response

Oklahoma is deploying four swift water rescue teams to Texas to assist with ongoing flooding after a request through the Emergency Management Assistance Compact (EMAC).

Governor Kevin Stitt authorized the deployment of 24 Oklahoma Task Force 1 members from the Tulsa and Oklahoma City areas, along with boats, trailers and other rescue equipment. The teams are expected to deploy for up to seven days, depending on flood conditions.

“I am so proud to have Oklahoma Task Force 1 representing our state and assisting our neighbors,” Stitt said. “They are the embodiment of the Oklahoma Standard, and I am grateful for their service.”

The teams will be staged in San Antonio before being assigned to flood response operations.

EMAC is a nationwide mutual aid system that allows states to share personnel and equipment during emergencies. Oklahoma has previously deployed responders through the program to assist with disasters in California, Florida, Kansas, Louisiana, North Carolina, New Mexico and Texas.

The Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management said it is continuing to monitor additional requests from Texas and could send more resources if needed.
