Piedmont Receives $4.7 Million for Road Improvements

Piedmont has been awarded $4.7 million through the state’s PREP program to improve safety and ease congestion on two of its most heavily traveled roads.

Senator Thompson announced the funding, which will complement Oklahoma Department of Transportation work on State Highway 4.

“Strong communities need infrastructure that can keep up with their growth. Piedmont has identified important safety needs, and city leaders are ready to move forward with improvements that will make a difference for residents,” Thompson said.

Representative Crosswhite Hader said Piedmont’s growth has increased the urgency of road improvements.

“Piedmont has gone from 1,500 residents to almost 10,000 and we’re expecting to double that in the next 10 years,” Crosswhite Hader said.

City Manager Josh Williams said the funding will also help address congestion affecting first responders and law enforcement operating from a facility directly off the road.

City officials are comparing several designs, including four-lane, three-lane and enhanced two-lane options. They plan to select a design based on final costs and long-term safety and efficiency.

Mayor Kurt Mayabb said construction is expected to begin by the end of the 2027 school year, once the cost figures are available.
