CPAC Conference To Spotlight House Speaker T. W. Shannon

newsexHouse Speaker T.W. Shannon will be featured as a rising conservative star during the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) on March 16 in Washington D.C.

The influential annual conference is an annual gathering of conservatives with speeches by conservative leaders also including U.S. Senator Marco Rubio, U.S. Representative Paul Ryan as well as Oklahoma’s U.S. Senator Tom Coburn.

Shannon will be part of a group of nine young elected “rising star” conservatives, mostly in local and state government, to be featured. The group also includes Utah Mayor Mia Love, a prime-time speaker at the 2012 Republican National Convention.

American Conservative Union has hosted CPAC since 1974, and it now stands as the largest and most influential annual gathering of conservatives in the nation, with over 10,000 attendees last year alone.

“I’m humbled to have been asked to participate in this conference, but mostly, I’m excited to highlight the conservative pro-growth agenda we’re pursuing in the Oklahoma Legislature this year,” Shannon said.

“We’re lowering taxes, resisting attempts to saddle future generations with debt, reforming the state’s antiquated workers compensation system and putting restraints on out-of-control spending and government growth,” Shannon said.

CPAC 2013 will bring national leaders together with local grassroots activists for three days of blockbuster speeches, policy discussions and networking opportunities – all celebrating the shared principles of smaller government, a strong national defense and traditional values. Shannon will be one of the conservative rising stars under the age of 40 in commemoration of CPAC’s 40th anniversary.

Shannon was sworn in as Oklahoma’s Speaker of the House on January 8. He is the youngest speaker in the state’s history and is the first African American Republican to be a state House speaker in the United States since Reconstruction. For more information about Shannon, visit www.TWShannon.com.
