ACLU Honors Wesselhoft

Rep. Paul Wesselhöft is among five state lawmakers being honored by the American Civil Liberties Union of Oklahoma for the 2013 legislative session.

“As a constitutional conservative, I am honored to be recognized by the American Civil Liberties Union of Oklahoma for defending the constitutional rights of Oklahomans,” said Wesselhöft, R-Moore. “Although I am dedicated to conservative principles, I do never wish it said that I put partisan politics before my constituents. I greatly appreciate the work of the ACLU of Oklahoma to defend constitutional freedoms, even if I do not agree with all of their positions.”

Wesselhöft received the ACLU of Oklahoma Freedom Award given to a state lawmaker who has fought to advance the ideals guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution. Wesselhöft earned the award through his efforts to protect the privacy of Oklahomans in relation to emerging technologies, according to the ACLU of Oklahoma.

Wesselhöft authored legislation that would prohibit the government from using drones to spy on Oklahomans without first obtaining a warrant. He also introduced legislation that would require the government to first obtain a warrant before tracking an individual’s cell phone.
