Colorado gubernatorial candidate and former Congressman Tom Tancredo, an advocate of legalized marijuana, is due in Oklahoma City this week to campaign for Rep. Mike Turner, who is seeking the Republican nomination for Congress in the 5th District.
Tancredo. a GOP congressman for six terms, ran for president in 2008 before dropping out. He also ran for governor of Colorado as a Constitution Party candidate in 2010, but lost badly. He is running for governor this year as a Republican.
Tancredo, usually perceived to support conservative values, has received widespread coverage of his support for the legalization of marijuana. He sent a letter to some Republican state lawmakers outlining his support for a ballot measure that would legalize it, saying “it presents a responsible, effective and much-needed solution to a misguided policy.”
If I wasn’t supporting Steve Russell, Turner might well have had my consideration. This news however confirms I made a good choice. It’s not his stance on marijuana legalization, but rather Tancredo himself. I don’t think this helps Turner at all.
