A 59-year-old man who held his wife at gunpoint inside their Tulsa home was arrested by police following a seven-hour standoff Tuesday night.

Tulsa police said John Chris Hastings “willfully and maliciously pointed a loaded firearm” at the head of his wife and threatened to kill her while inside a home in the 6800 block of East 65th Street, according to an arrest report.

Hastings is a former member of the Oklahoma House of Representatives.

Investigators said the incident, which began about 4:30 p.m., was witnessed by the couple’s son and daughter.

After officers failed to coax Hastings out of the home during several hours of negotiations, the Tulsa Police Department’s Special Operations Team was called to the scene and deployed pepper balls inside the residence.

Hastings was apprehended without incident about 11:30 p.m., police said.

Hastings’ wife and children were not harmed during the standoff, police said.

He was booked into the Tulsa jail in lieu of $20,500 on pointing a deadly weapon and resisting arrest complaints, jail records show.
