Weston Denies GOP Debt, Says $33K On Hand

weston1Former Republican Party Chairman Dave Weston today told The McCarville Report that, contrary to claims, the Party is not in debt and when he left the office last Saturday, there was $33,000 in the Party’s account.

“There is no debt,” he said.

His comments came after claims that he left the party $50,000 in debt when he was defeated in his reelection bid last Saturday by Randy Brogdon.

He said that, to the best of his knowledge, “There are three unpaid bills.”

He also said the Party’s books were audited as of January 31st by an accredited firm and everything was in order.

I’m not a rocket scientist, but I’m guessing the GOP has $33,000 in its account and 3 unpaid bills that total $83,000!

  2. David Van Risseghem, 16 April, 2015

I’ve heard from businesses and I know of at least one creditor who say they’ve’ been waiting over 2 years for the OKGOP to pay up.

  3. Me, 16 April, 2015

If they have been waiting over 2 years then it was Matt Pinnell that didn’t pay up!

  4. Edmond Voter, 16 April, 2015

That is probably the money from the convention… and I bet there is a PILE OF BILLS that need to be paid! Once again, who would I believe… not Dave (who couldn’t give any financial report that added up) or Randy (who has proven himself honest throughout his service to our state and now Party.) Just saying…

  5. Steve Dickson, 16 April, 2015

1300 delegates x $20 delegate fee = $26,000 from convention delegate fees (roughly, not sure how many actually paid that didn’t show up). Then there was the event Friday night, and hard to know how much that made, but those two events could easily hit the $33,000. Bottom line, not a good situation – and the secrecy over the financial status of the party has been a much discussed issue in many quarters, for a long period of time.

We can (and I believe now will) do much better than this.

Ohhhh… but its not a convention “fee” its a “contribution”!

  7. David Van, 16 April, 2015

    Reply to “Me”:
The debt I cited was from a video production company who provided services to the 2013 OKGOP convention the vendor agreed with Pinnell that he would provide the invoice after he delivered the product. The vendor had no reason to question the integrity of the OKGOP until after Weston refused to pay for the convention services.
Perhaps John Angler will have more clarity on this. It was hs company who got stiffed by Weston.

  8. Me, 16 April, 2015

Why didn’t Matt make sure there was sufficient funds to pay him BEFORE he hired him? I’d say the guy was stiffed by Pinnell, not by Weston.

  9. oh boy, 17 April, 2015

Why has the company not sent a demand letter to the party’s attorney? I have a feeling he would have looked into it. Two years is a long time to not bring a complaint until now.

  10. James Stevens, 16 April, 2015

Accounts Payable -41,548.09 as of March 17, 2015 on the Ledger provided at the State Committee Meeting, that would be debt to those who don’t know accounting.

  11. Vernon Woods, 17 April, 2015

Gosh, it appears that the OKGOP, OK state government, and the federal government all use the same set of accounting rules – that explains a lot.
