Special elections to fill vacancies in two House districts will be held July 14, Gov. Mary Fallin’s office announced Monday.

A second election, if needed, will be held Sept. 8.

Fallin issued executive orders Monday calling for elections in both House District 73 and House District 85, an Oklahoma City seat that became vacant with the death of Rep. David Dank earlier this month.

District 73, which includes downtown and northwest Tulsa, became vacant with the election of Rep. Kevin Matthews to the state Senate.

The filing period for both elections is May 4-6. The July 14 elections will be for primaries or for general elections in cases where no primary is necessary. There are no special election runoffs.

At least two candidates have announced in House District 73 — teacher and graduate student Jonathan Townsend and funeral director and pastor Jennettie Marshall.
