Coffee Talk: 35 Years Ago

By Mike McCarville

~ Thirty-five years ago, I had just finished mailing out the first edition of The McCarville Report, a one-sheet, two-sided, typewritten collection of political insider news and information.

In the ensuing three-and-a-half decades, we’ve been through some iterations: The McCarville/Gray Report, The McCarville/Hill Report, The Hill Report and now, The McCarville Report on the Internet.

We’ve marked the change from a state house dominated by Democrats to one dominated by Republicans. We’ve helped ensnare some Democrats, and some Republicans. All of whom deserved to be snared, charged and convicted. Or, at least, exposed.

We’ve seen good politicians vilified and bad ones praised. We’ve seen enacted some good laws and far too many bad ones.

We’ve seen the change in voter registration from Democrat dominance to Republican parity.

Thirty-five years ago, there was only us. Today, in the Internet era, there are multiple blogsites trying to follow political news. We’ve seen some flash across the screen and be gone in a year or two.

We’ve been accused of being blindly conservative, not conservative enough, liberal and every thing in between. We’ve been attacked by idiots with little, closed minds and chips on their shoulders. It goes with the territory.

Not much I’d change starting over. Oh, I would like to have hair again, have better vision and hearing and have a whole human heart.
