The Cooperative Council for Oklahoma School Administration is encouraging Congress to pass legislation which would put more education standards in the hands of states and local districts. The CCOSA endorsed the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) on Tuesday.
“CCOSA has long endorsed an approach to federal education policy that ends federal overreach and prescription in favor of respecting state and local control of education issues. ESSA strikes a very appropriate balance of power between the federal, state and local levels,” said Steven Crawford, CCOSA Co-Executive Director. “CCOSA is pleased to see Congress advance legislation promoting policies designed to strengthen our state’s schools and the students they serve.”
The language of ESSA was revealed this week. Congress is expected to take up the bill soon.
