Tulsa area residents saw more of the Democratic candidate as the election approaches on Tuesday for the area’s Senate District 34 race.
J.J. Dossett is facing Republican David McLain to fill the seat left vacant by Rick Brinkley’s resignation in August 2015. Dossett’s campaign aired a commercial in the Tulsa area ahead of Tuesday’s election; his cable TV buy late last week totaled about $6,o00.
Both candidates have been making a push on the campaign trail for this special election. The standard fliers and door to door visits are the customary tools used by candidates to close in on an election. Social media has become a regular tool for campaigns. However, Dossett increased outreach through cable TV spots.
By all indications the race between Dossett and McLain has been civil and has not gone negative. The district covers part of Tulsa, Owasso, Collinsville, Skiatook, and Sperry.
McLain is a veteran and a small business owner. He has received the endorsements of the Oklahoma Second Amendment Association and the Oklahoma Conservative Political Action Committee and has the strong backing of the Oklahoma Republican Party and the Tulsa County Republican Party, which are marshaling volunteers for a Tuesday “get out the vote” effort on McLain’s behalf.
Here’s a McLain video:
Dossett has lived in Owasso since his childhood and works as a teacher and coach. He’s also served in the Oklahoma Air National Guard with tours in Iraq and Afghanistan.
