Keating Says Caudill’s Endorsement Claim Is False

Former Oklahoma Governor Frank Keating today said a campaign postcard mailed by Oklahoma County Clerk Carolyn Caudill yesterday claiming that Keating had endorsed Caudill in her current election is false.

The postcard has a prominent picture of Keating and states:

“This Tuesday – June 28th – You have the opportunity to keep County Clerk Carolyn Caudill on the job.  I urge you to get out and vote for her in this Republican Primary!  Frank Keating, Former Oklahoma Governor.”

“This statement is false,” Keating said.   “I am disappointed that Caudill has misrepresented my role in her race.  I had endorsed Caudill in past elections.  But in a conversation between the two of us earlier this year, I told Caudill that I would not be endorsing her in this election.   David Hooten is a good man and a good friend, and I could not oppose him.”

Hooten said this type of unethical conduct is precisely why he is running for County Clerk.  “If Caudill is willing to engage in such blatantly dishonest and unethical conduct, there’s likely nothing she won’t do just to get elected,”  Hooten said.  “Caudill has had numerous brushes with the law, and this dishonest campaign post card is just one more indication of how much we need to clean house in the Clerk’s office.”

Hooten, an Oklahoma City small businessman, has already been endorsed by current Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin.

“David Hooten is a great businessman who would bring his expertise to the office of Oklahoma County Clerk,” Fallin said.  “David knows how to run a good operation.  He is a man of integrity and would do a great job.”
