Lankford, Grassley Question Inaction by Obama Administration Over Zika Funding

The fight over Zika funding continues as Senator James Lankford and Senator Chuck Grassley presses the Obama Administration on the use of unobligated funds, instead of asking Congress for emergency funds. Lankford and Grassley wrote a letter to Department of Health and Humans Services Secretary Sylvia Matthews Burwell urging action as Zika begins to spread in the U.S.

“We urge you to act and use funding available to ensure our nation is prepared,” Lankford and Grassley wrote.

Members of the House and Senate Appropriations Committees advised the President his Administration has the transfer authority to distribute left over funds from the Ebola scare a few years ago. There’s approximately $589 million available.

Lankford and Grassley want to know why the Administration has yet to act.

The letter to Secretary Burwell can be read here.
