Two Russell Authored Bills Win House Approval

Congressman Steve Russell had a successful week in Congress as the House passes two of his measures.

Russell’s H.R. 5384, The Federal Register Printing Savings Act of 2016, was passed by the House on Wednesday. It stops the practice of printing daily copies of the Federal Register for the members of Congress. The Federal Register is currently online and searchable, making the paper copies virtually useless to staffers and the members.

“How many Americans did it take to pay the taxes to throw a half a million dollars in the trash every year? The answer to that is what drives me to make this kind of waste stop,” Congressman Russell said.  “Every wasteful practice, no matter how trivial, should be evaluated and eliminated. We got into these habits one poor decision at a time and we can get out of them one good decision at a time.”

Russell has been making a name in D.C. as a cost cutter through various measures to reduce government waste. He also publishes a report called Waste Watch and has outlined about $90 billion in wasteful government spending.

H.R. 6009, The Federal Agency Mail Management Act was also passed by the House. It corrects a mistake Congress made when it put mail processing guidance under the National Archive authority. It was restored back to the General Service Administration through the measure.
