Teacher Pay Raise, Cigarette Tax Proposals Still Alive in Committee

Two bills to give teachers a raise and a bill to reapportion cigarette taxes should an increase be passed were given committee approval on Wednesday. The Tulsa World‘s Randy Krehbiel writes it could indicate Republican leaders haven’t given up on raising revenues to patch a budget gap of nearly $900 million.
