Cigarette Fee Gets August Court Date

The challenge to Oklahoma’s new $1.50 smoking cessation fee on cigarettes gets its day in court. The Tulsa World‘s Barbara Hoberock writes oral arguments will be heard on August 8 in the Oklahoma Supreme Court. Tobacco companies and others are challenging the fee as unconstitutional because of when the bill was passed and that it is really a tax.
