Legislators Open to Revisiting State Question 640

Several lawmakers would be open to the idea of revisiting State Question 640, the law which requires a supermajority in the Legislature to raise taxes. The Tulsa World’s Barbara Hoberock writes during a State Chamber of Commerce public affairs forum, legislators blamed SQ 640 for the gridlock over the budget.

In other words, it is too hard to increase taxes in Oklahoma, so legislators want to make it easier to raise taxes on Oklahomans so they can pay more for inefficient government with little oversight from these same legislators and governor (see recent investigative hearing on Health Department). Might as well put Cal Hobson back in charge.

Trying to push Republican Legislator’s into acting like Tax&Spend Dem’s!

SQ 640 is one of the best things we’ve ever done. Whoever tries to roll it back earns my undying enmity.

Whoa! The voters of Oklahoma passed SQ 640 with full knowledge that it was to make it very hard to raise taxes. Get a grip legislators and Mary… Oklahomans still DO NOT WANT HIGHER TAXES!

Instead of trying to figure out how to get more money out of us, do what you said you’d do… limit the scope and size of government. Oklahoma doesn’t have a revenue problem, we have a spending problem!

Any attempt to fiddle with SQ 640 will be met by push back that these legislators have never seen!
