Delegation Throws Support Behind NDAA

Oklahoma is a state with a large military presence, so it makes sense for the Congressional delegation to support the passage of the National Defense Authorization Act. Here is what the members said about it as the measure works its way through Congress.

U.S. Senator Jim Inhofe:

“Oklahoma’s military installations are on the front lines of our nation’s military readiness, modernization, and maintenance efforts. The FY19 NDAA supports our military presence by ensuring the latest training and equipment is available for our service members as well as provisions that will improve the life of our military families. As one of the most military-friendly communities, we appreciate the value a robust military presence has for our communities and local economy.”

Congressman Tom Cole:

“It is a fundamental responsibility of Congress to ensure that our nation’s military has the necessary resources to rebuild our capabilities and readiness to meet the challenges ahead. For the 57th consecutive year, the House passed one of the most robust and comprehensive pieces of NDAA legislation last week. I was proud to put my support behind it.”

“This year’s NDAA authorizes funding at $708.1 billion in discretionary funding. There will be increases in the size of all branches of the military, as well as increased procurement of additional aircraft, ships, and weapons systems.  Investments in will be made to advance technologies that will reform how our military engages with friends and foes around the world. Furthermore, it includes a 2.6% pay raise for the troops, the highest in nine years.”

“While our military is strong, our competitive edge continues to erode as our competitors move to close the gap. This bill provides major organizational changes to how the Department of Defense is organized and how it purchases new weapon systems and outfits our military.”

“I was pleased to support this broadly bipartisan legislation on the House Floor, and I look forward to its passage in the Senate and its enactment into law.”

Congressman Steve Russell:

“This defense bill, which passed the House Armed Services Committee by an overwhelming bipartisan vote of 60 to 1 and a final floor vote of 351 to 66, takes crucial steps in rebuilding our military and reforming the Pentagon. Both are essential to helping our troops prepare for and respond to the complex security challenges we are facing around the world.”

Congressman Markwayne Mullin:

“I can think of no better way to honor those who paid the ultimate sacrifice and their families than to ensure that the troops who carry on the fight for our freedoms have the necessary tools and resources to prevail over our enemies. As we prepare to recognize Memorial Day this weekend, I am proud to support the FY19 NDAA which delivers a 2.6 percent pay raise to the men and women of our armed forces—the biggest pay raise in 9 years—and rebuilds and restores the readiness of our military.”
