Not Enough Signatures for Recreational Marijuana Vote to Make the Ballot

The effort to ask voters to legalize recreational marijuana in Oklahoma fell short of its signature requirements according to the Secretary of State’s Office. Supporters of State Question 797 gathered 102,814 signatures to place the constitutional amendment on the ballot. To gain ballot access, the group would have needed 123,725 registered voter signatures.

The Secretary of State will send its final report to the Oklahoma Supreme Court to officially determine State Question 797’s fate.

Supporters also failed to gather enough signatures for State Question 796 which would have amended to the state constitution for medical marijuana.

Statutory medical marijuana was approved by voters in the form of State Question 788 and is being implemented by the state now.
