Lankford Discusses Government Shutdown Negotiations

The partial federal government shutdown is in its second week as the 116th Congress takes hold with a Democrat majority House of Representatives and a Republican led Senate. U.S. Senator James Lankford appeared on NPR’s All Things Considered on Wednesday to discuss the proposals to end the shutdown.

During the interview, Lankford contended that President Trump made an offer to Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer that had significantly less funding for the “border wall” which is at the center of the government shutdown. Schumer did not make a counter offer with presumed House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and was stalling to allow the Democrats to take control of the House.

Lankford is calling for continued negotiations to solve the problem.
