Supreme Court Will Review HD71 Race Results

The Oklahoma Supreme Court has agreed to review a recount that overturned the results in a special election for a state House seat from Tulsa.

Initial returns from the April 3 election showed Democrat Dan Arthrell three votes ahead of Republican Katie Henke. Henke requested a manual recount that found Henke won by one vote.

The court on Tuesday issued a stay to prevent any action on the recount after two ballots for Arthrell were found shortly after the Tulsa County Election Board certified Henke as the winner.

Election Board Secretary Paul Ziriax says the serial numbers on the found ballots match serial numbers of ballots counted by the machine during the election.

Henke’s attorney questions why the ballots were not found until after the recount.
