U.S. Senator Jim Inhofe liked what he saw in President Trump’s budget proposal, especially when it comes to defense and homeland security spending. Inhofe is the chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee and has been promoting increased military readiness.
Inhofe issued the following statement after the White House released the budget proposal.
“I applaud the President’s topline defense budget of $750 billion dollars. As we face growing threats from around the globe, while still fighting to restore our readiness, this topline makes the needed investment in our national defense and meets the recommendations of the National Defense Strategy Commission to provide real growth to the defense budget.
“I’m also very pleased that the non-defense portion of the president’s budget includes new funding for border security, including the wall; key investments in infrastructure and greater support for veterans health care – all while cutting funds from bloated domestic programs.
“In order to ensure our military gets the investment it desperately needs, we must work immediately to raise the budget caps—or exempt defense from the caps—so we can ensure the topline defense budget rightfully reflects our priorities.”
