2022 Election Field Nearly Set

Friday was the final day of candidate filing and now challenges will be heard this week. There were a total of 569 candidates file during the three day filing period last week.

For the unexpired term of U.S. Senator Jim Inhofe, 13 Republicans filed to run. There is a Democrat, Libertarian and an Independent in the race.

U.S. Senator James Lankford drew two other Republican opponents, Jackson Lahmeyer and Joan Farr. Six Democrats also filed to run for that party’s nomination in the race. One Libertarian also filed.

Congressional District 1 will be decided this fall between incumbent Republican Congressman Kevin Hern, Democrat Adam Martin and Independent Evelyn Rogers.

The open Congressional District 2 seat currently held by Congressman Markwayne Mullin has drawn a baker’s dozen number of Republicans for that race. A Democrat and an Independent candidate will face the eventual Republican nominee in the General Election.

Congressional District 3 shows Congressman Frank Lucas has drawn two Republican opponents. The winner of that primary race will face Democrat Jeremiah Ross.

Congressional Tom Cole has drawn two Republican challengers for the District 4 seat. One Democrat has filed for that race.

Congresswoman Stephanie Bice did draw a Republican challenger in her first defense of the Congressional District 5 seat. The race also drew a Democrat and an Independent.

In the race for Governor, incumbent Kevin Stitt will face Republicans Mark Sherwood, Joel Kintsel and Moira McCabe for the Republican nomination. The Democrats will nominate either Joy Hofmeister or Connie Johnson. Natalie Bruno has filed as a Libertarian in the race. Ervin Yen is the Independent.

The primary election is set for June 28th.
