Negotiations Ongoing for Cherokee Nation Tribal Tag Compact

Negotiations between the Stitt Administration and the Cherokee Nation for a tribal tag compact are underway as the current extended compact is set to expire at the end of the year.

The Oklahoman’s Molly Young writes Cherokee Nation Principal Chief Chuck Hoskin, Jr. wants the new compact to mirror the current agreement.

Governor Kevin Stitt would like the state of Oklahoma to maintain issuing the license tags to tribal members to provide more transparency. Currently, the Cherokee Nation has its own tag agency which issues plates to tribal citizens.
