Stitt Vetoes Nurse Practitioner Prescribing Bill

Calling for tax credits instead to attract more health care to rural areas, Governor Kevin Stitt vetoed a bill which would have given Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs) the authority to prescribe without a supervising physician. Senate Bill 458 raised Stitt’s concerns.

“I don’t believe APRNs should be able to prescribe Schedules III through V controlled substances without physician supervision. Further, this bill would allow APRNs to have full practice and prescriptive authority in all specialty categories absent supervision,” wrote Stitt in his veto message.

Still also called for the Legislature to explore tax credits as a way to get more health care personnel to consider practicing in rural Oklahoma.
