Oklahoma House Delegation Backs Johnson over Greene

Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene’s attempt to oust U.S. Speaker of the House Mike Johnson failed on Wednesday. Oklahoma’s House Delegation backed Johnson.

Congresswoman Stephanie Bice says Greene’s attempt to remove Johnson only plays into further division.

“The motion to vacate does nothing but further divide GOP conference and make it harder to focus on the issues facing the American people. The last time we held a motion to vacate, the People’s House stalled for months. Speaker Johnson is a principled conservative leader who is achieving results in a divided government. I voted to table this resolution,” said Bice.

Brecheen also voted to table Greene’s resolution despite finding himself on the opposing side of many of Johnson’s initiatives.

“I have consistently voted against the measures Speaker Johnson has been pushing these past weeks, including the recent foreign aid package that included $60 billion for Ukraine. However, with our slim majority and what happened last Fall, I am not convinced that we would come out of a motion to vacate with a more conservative result at this time and that is why I voted to table this motion. I am praying for the Speaker and am encouraging him to listen to the conservative conscience of this body,” said Brecheen.

Congressman Frank Lucas and Congressman Kevin Hern added their votes to table the motion.

Congressman Tom Cole did not vote on the resolution but issued a statement after the vote was taken and Greene’s attempt to displace Johnson failed.

“Today, a Motion to Vacate was brought up against Speaker Mike Johnson. This is both disappointing and counterproductive, as it only creates chaos during a time when Congress has important work to do.

“Speaker Johnson has consistently pushed conservative policies that have benefited the American people. I have full faith in his ability to continue to lead this body,” said Congressman Cole. “He had my full support in October when he was elected Speaker, and he continues to have my full support now. I stand with Speaker Johnson,” said Cole.
