Brecheen Introduces “No More Taxpayer Cash for the Taliban” Act

Congressman Josh Brecheen is leading a group of House Republicans in an effort to curtail American tax money from going to assist Taliban-controlled Afghanistan. Brecheen’s bill is called the “No More Taxpayer Cash for the Taliban” Act. It would restrict federal agencies from using taxpayer money which could fall into the hands of the Taliban.

“The Biden-Harris Administration’s disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan has plunged the country back under Taliban rule and now it turns out that our taxpayer dollars are being used to the benefit of the Taliban. This legislation is needed so we can ensure that no more of our tax dollars are being irresponsibly used in Taliban-controlled Afghanistan,” said Brecheen in a statement announcing the legislation.

Brecheen and the other Republicans are concerned about nearly $3 billion in U.S. currency being used by the United Nations for aid in Afghanistan. When the aid arrives in Afghanistan, it is alleged that the Taliban will tax the money at different points of distribution. That helps to fund Taliban operations.

Representatives Tim Burchett (R-TN), Barry Moore (R-AL), Ralph Norman (R-SC), Nick Langworthy (R-NY), Matt Rosendale (R-MT), Eli Crane (R-AZ), Eric Burlison (R-MO), and Randy Feenstra (R-IA) joined Brecheen as co-sponsors on the bill.
