Hern’s State and Tribal Child Support Enforcement Measure Moves Forward

Congressman Kevin Hern’s legislation to ensure tribal child welfare is strengthened passed as part of H.R. 9076. He says it will fix an issue which could impact millions.

“Without this fix, millions of families could lose their child support overnight. My bill protects those families, keeps the program running for the 13 million families it serves, levels the playing field for Tribes, and saves taxpayers $777 million. I look forward to seeing it signed into law,” said Hern.

Hern’s Tribal Child Welfare Support Act modernizes funding by providing direct Title IV-B child welfare funding to Indian tribes without cutting state funds. Currently, the money goes directly to the states to pass out to tribes.
