State Treasurer Faces Lawsuit over Open Records

Oklahoma State Treasurer Todd Russ and his Chief of Staff Jordan Harvey are facing a civil lawsuit alleging they violated the Open Records Act by withholding information and documents related to the Oklahoma Energy Discrimination Elimination Act. That law allows the Treasurer to create a list of companies which have anti-fossil fuel agendas. That law was suspended by an Oklahoma County Judge.

OK Energy Today reports the lawsuit was filed by FOIA Professional Services, LLC. It is an Alabama based company which assists businesses with Freedom on Information Act requests.

The Treasurer’s Office responded saying “It is deeply disappointing that an out-of-state company is using Oklahoma’s Open Records Act, a sunshine law designed to ensure transparency for the people of Oklahoma for the benefit of unknown out-of-state entities.”
