As June 14th rolled around, at least five bills passed by the Oklahoma Legislature did not receive Governor Kevin Stitt’s signature. Meaning those pieces of legislation have received a “pocket veto.” That’s the destiny of a bill approved by lawmakers during the final week of the legislative session that the governor leaves unsigned.
The Oklahoman’s Murray Evans writes two of those bills were authored by House Speaker Kyle Hilbert and Senate President Pro Tem Lonnie Paxton.
The bills dealt with a range of subjects including designating an official to oversee the implementation of a consent decree by the Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services, creating a tax credit for doctors practicing in rural areas, establishing the Oklahoma Rare Disease Advisory Council, exempted certain gambling losses, and adding a $15 million cap on tax credits related to the Oklahoma Rural Jobs Act.
