Oklahoma FOP Endorses Steve Russell

The 6,000-member strong Oklahoma Fraternal Order of Police today endorsed Steve Russell in the Republican runoff for Congress in the 5th District.

From his time in the U.S. Army through his time serving Oklahomans at the State Capitol, Steve Russell has shown character and patriotism that makes us proud to endorse him,” said Mark Nelson, State FOP Legislative Chairman.

Russell and his opponent, Corporation Commissioner Patrice Douglas, both spoke to the FOP Convention in Oklahoma City last week.
“As I spoke to the FOP last week, I could feel the bond we shared as fellow professionals who put themselves in harm’s way as we serve the American people,” said Russell.  “They know that foreign affairs affect Oklahoma’s police departments directly because many officers also serve in the National Guard.  During the height of the War on Terror, the Oklahoma City Police Department alone was down more than 30 officers because of deployments.  They know the decisions in Washington impact every officer on the street.”
Mark Nelson said, “As public safety servants we are confronted daily with the evils that threaten society.  We feel that Lt. Col. Russell knows how to deal with those threats and will undoubtedly work tirelessly at making this country a safer place for our families and children.”
