Tribal Leaders Hear from OTA Director on Turnpike Fees

During this week’s United Indian Nations of Oklahoma quarterly meeting this week, the leaders of several of Oklahoma’s tribes heard from Oklahoma Turnpike Authority Executive Director Joe Echelle asking them to join the state’s Plate Pay system. Currently, the state is losing out on revenue from motorists with tribal tags which do not share driver information with the state.

Tulsa World’s Felix Clary writes Echelle says the only information the state needs is names, billing addresses, and plate numbers. Also, that the state wasn’t looking for law enforcement data.

Governor Kevin Stitt recently made a plea to tribes to join the system and would like to model compacts after the current compacts with the Chickasaws and Choctaws.
