U.S. Supreme Court Hears Glossip Arguments for New Trial

The U.S. Supreme Court on Wednesday heard oral arguments for and against throwing out the murder conviction of Richard Glossip and granting a new trial in Oklahoma. Oklahoma Attorney General Genter Drummond argued in favor of a new trial because his independent investigation found that prosecutors did not release some evidence to Glossip’s defense attorneys. Those arguing against the appeal believe the Oklahoma Court of Criminal Appeals got its decision correct in that the missing evidence would not have likely proven that Glossip was innocent in the murder of motel owner Barry Van Treese.

Glossip is facing the death penalty.

Tulsa World’s Curtis Killman writes the Supreme Court is expected to rule on Glossip’s case by the end of June.
