Drummond Sues Roblox Over Child Safety Concerns

Oklahoma Attorney General Gentner Drummond has filed a lawsuit against Roblox, accusing the online gaming platform of failing to protect children and misleading parents about safety on the platform.

The lawsuit, filed Thursday, alleges Roblox allowed predators to target children through weak account protections and inadequate safety measures.

“Roblox marketed itself as a safe place for children but turned a blind eye as predators targeted and exploited minors on its platform,” Drummond said. “It failed to implement adequate safeguards, failed to protect young users and failed to be honest with parents about the risks.”

According to the lawsuit, children as young as 5 years old were able to create accounts and communicate with strangers on the platform without parental knowledge.

The complaint also alleges adults were able to impersonate children by creating multiple accounts and avoiding platform bans.

Drummond said Roblox prioritized platform growth and profits over child safety.

“Roblox’s willingness to sacrifice the well-being of children in pursuit of profit is unconscionable and indefensible,” Drummond said.

The lawsuit alleges violations of the Oklahoma Consumer Protection Act and seeks civil penalties and a permanent injunction against the company.
