Distracted Driver Measure for Construction, School Zones Bill Passes OK House

House Bill 2263 would ban using handheld cell phones while driving through active school and construction zones. The Oklahoma House approved Representative Nicole Miller’s bill this week.

“Distracted driving is a serious issue, and this bill is a straightforward, common-sense step to keep drivers’ focus where it belongs: on the road,” Miller said. “You can still take a call using hands-free technology but putting the phone down in these critical areas will help save lives. It’s a small change that makes a significant difference.”

HB 2263 allows a driver to use hands free services. Violators will see the same penalties as those who are caught driving and texting.

The measure moves over to the Oklahoma Senate.
